“How’s 9 p.m. sound? And this can be our meeting point?” He’d asked, with a hint of a chuckle, or maybe it was a challenge in his voice. Like he knew what this was doing to Felix. Like he was daring him to say no to something so painfully ridiculous.
Game on, Sylvain.
“Aw Feeee, it’s so romanticccc,” Annette was crooning, as Felix snatched the top container of his leftover chinese from the shelf and shuffled towards his bedroom, only pausing to grab a fork.
“It’s not romantic,” he grumbled. It was embarrassing. Nerdy. So, so lame. But Felix’s cheeks were burning as he dug into his lo mein, unable to keep the image of Sylvain’s smile appearing on the insides of his eyelids every time he blinked. This was already becoming a huge problem.

The spine cracked as it was carefully opened, the circles and notes scribbled roughly in the margins slightly faded. A finger traced over the markings fondly, and Felix slowly browsed through the old names of the courting flowers (now long crumbled to dust), wishing for the upteenth time there’d been a way to preserve them. When he’d offhandedly admitted that sentiment—tucked away on the dimly lit veranda during Dimitri’s coronation celebration, with a moonflower blooming between his fingers—Sylvain’s expression had turned unreadable.
But then he’d plucked the flower and tucked it behind Felix’s ear and kissed him until the night faded to morning, and Felix knew, more than ever before, that he wanted this forever.

Felix had trotted over, their escort looking warily back at them. Sylvain patted the muzzle of Felix’s Friesian before grinning up at his husband.
“Oh, nothing babe. But since you’re here, you may as well claim your cat.”
He winked before pointing at the tabby aggressor. Upon seeing Felix the cat strolled over, sitting at the feet of his horse and peering up unbothered at him.
“Oh for Sothis—go home! Go on, get!” he yelled, flapping his arms in a very undignified manner and causing Sylvain to muffle a laugh against the horse’s neck. The cat blinked.

“I went to a maid and butler cafe at our college once to see our friends. Some pictures just popped up:” he showed his phone for a moment to Felix and he glanced over. “I just thought you’d look cute in one. If you were in it, that's all.”
Felix grunted in response as he went back to scrolling his phone for cat videos and pictures of Sylvain.
