Summary
*8/23: On a brief hiatus while I reread the books again and make some very big political decisions that will affect the entire story*
They were never meant to grow up.
Laurent is fifteen, and alone. Auguste is dead, and in the encroaching red tide of the Regent’s hostile court, he has resigned himself to defeat and incurred a reputation as reckless, troubled, unfit to rule.
When all seems hopeless, an unexpected ally intervenes in a moment of crisis, and Laurent finds renewed determination to avenge his brother’s death and reclaim his throne. What he doesn’t expect to find is a taste of normal adolescence and a chance to be known, and loved.
But the Regent’s cruelty is a poison, and Laurent is not its only survivor. When a clever, sharp-tongued orphan arrives in the palace as a contender for the Regent’s newest pet, Laurent must face a terrible choice, and confront the reality of the other wretched creatures his uncle leaves in his wake.

Summary
They have an arrangement.
Damen – the hot law clerk from Grindr who also happens to volunteer with Laurent – knows the rules:
1. No kissing
2. No oral
3. Laurent rides on top
4. Finishing is optional (for Laurent – not for Damen)What Damen doesn’t know is that Laurent is barely scraping by on two jobs, saving every cent to get custody of his stepbrother Nicaise and pull him out of foster care. That, a year and a half ago, he reported their abusive uncle Reg to the police and helped bring down a child trafficking ring. That part of him yearns for closeness and affection, though his cold demeanor says otherwise.
Damen wants to know more.
Laurent isn’t sure how much he can give when trust has already cost him so much.
