I can't remember shit, everything is spiraling, and I want to burn this book in my hands, but I don't have the courage to rid myself of it. Instead, I clutch it to my chest so hard that my knuckles are white and resist the urge to drop it and tug my hair so hard it comes out.
I see the reflection within the swimming purple of the portal, and I don't recognize my own face. It's muddled and unfamiliar, and I don't know whether to cry or to laugh.
I don't end up doing either; instead, I pull the book away from my chest and open the front cover, looking at the worn piece of paper taped onto the inside.
