Azula, tracking the Avatar and his connections to the Water Tribe, happens upon the ship and pays the ransom for Zuko, formerly considered KIA. She tries to "re-civilize" her brother and Iroh tries to arrange his escape back to Hakodad. Azula sends them both to Boiling Rock, og plot basically happens except Azula pretty much let's them go.

Summary
In the aftermath of the siege of the North Pole, Prince Zuko winds up adrift and is "rescued" by the warriors of the Southern Water Tribe. Trapped on a wooden ship in the middle of the ocean, Zuko tries his hardest to stay in control of his bending and his temper with the Water Tribe crew that holds him captive. But when Chief Hakoda's efforts to wrangle the Fire Prince include tying the two of them together to keep an eye on him, Zuko's position on the ship and fight for control gets tangled, as the lines between warden and parental figure weave together and the two become attached in ways they never expected at the end of his rope.

It had already been three years since he had first emerged, freshly scarred, and now Zuko was back in the Fire Nation palace. However, this time, Zuko was no longer the disgrace of the royal family; he was allowed to feel for once. No, now Zuko was Fire Lord, and had helped end the 100 Year War. He had helped usher in an era of peace, alongside the Avatar no less. Or at least he hoped it would be an era of peace, it had only actually been a few months since the coronation. Zuko was barely 17 and he already had so much work to do to fix the horrors of the past 100 years.

Zuko, Prince of the Fire Nation has just been banished. He’s spoken out of turn, disobeyed Uncle, even disrespected Father . He’s failed the nation that he’s supposed to rule one day and deserves his punishment, not the possibility to regain his honor given to him by Father.
Capture the Avatar? Okay. He resides in Ba Sing Se, the most heavily fortified city in the Earth Kingdom, but okay.
Return him to the Fire Nation alive? Sure. He’s probably being trained by bending masters from around the world but sure.
Get his honor back and learn to rule his nation with pride and justice? Fine. Azula hates him, Mother’s gone , and he looks absolutely hideous with his scar, but it’s fine.
At least he knows where the Avatar is. After all, the Avatar is sacred. He must be protected in Ba Sing Se.
Right?
Or, the Fire Nation was more than thorough in their search for the Avatar, but Zuko learns early on that his honor had never been lost.

After Zuko returns to the Fire Nation but before the all-important eclipse, a group of visitors stumble out of a Stargate hidden in the Fire Archives and into a very tense political situation. Ozai believes their arrival foretells the success of his plan for world domination. Zuko...doesn't have an opinion. He has far too much going on in his own life to care about a few new people in court, no matter where they came from.
But Zuko doesn't need to go looking for trouble for it to find him and Jack O'Neil of SG1 is very good at causing trouble for murderous alien dictators.
