“These are clementines.” The boy points up at the oranges hanging from the branches above them.
Dream looks up. “I thought they were oranges.”
“Well…” The boy stands up, he walks until he is standing right in front of Dream. He reaches up and grabs a fruit before sitting back down. “Technically, they are. They are a type of orange, a mix of sweet oranges and mandarin oranges. They’re smaller than regular oranges, smoother skin too.”
The boy holds the clementine out to Dream. He lets the boy drop it into his hand.

“Oh my god,” Karl gasps, hand shooting out to grab Sapnap’s wrist. “George is coming over here.”
Sapnap finds him immediately, seeing as he’s the only one stomping angrily towards them.
“Jesus fuck,” Dream sighs, turning in his chair to face George.
“This is literally just like high school,” Sapnap says under his breath, glancing at Karl. Then down at where Karl’s slender fingers are wrapped around his wrist. His nails are painted in alternating purple and orange. There’s a thin silver band around his thumb; Sapnap’s pretty sure it belonged to him.

In 2014 Dream is fourteen-turning-fifteen and spends his days writing letters to Birdie, a boy who lives halfway across the world that he's never met, but knows understands him better than anyone.
In 2022 it's spring in Venice, and Dream is on the cusp of turning twenty three. It's April when he meets George, a complete stranger who knows nothing about him, but somehow convinces Dream to be his fake boyfriend in order to avoid the prospect of an arranged marriage, as well as rebel against his mother's relentless expectations. “Thank you for coming,” cold fingers squeezed Sapnap’s hand tighter, “I- I really needed this.”
Sapnap smiled at him, watching George’s eyes flicker from Sapnap’s face to the tinted window to his left. Sapnap doesn't know what came over him, but he wanted to kiss him. Just simply press his lips to George’s jaw and then trail his lips to the other’s slowly and hotly. He remembers Dream’s words when he dropped Sap off at the airport.
“Tell me what his lips taste like,” Dream winked at him as Sapnap closed the car door and slumped into the airport, tired out of his mind but blushing pink as he reached security.
He wondered if he should tell George that, or maybe it should stay between the two. Would Sapnap get to taste him this trip?

“You’re ignoring me now too? Did I hurt your feelings by talking to Karl? God, you’re so jealous it’s crazy.” A rough hand drops into George’s lap, fingers gripping at his thigh. A quiet whimper slips from his lips, Dream’s grip tightening at the small sound.
“Oh, George, you know better than to mouth off to me baby. I’m going to have so much fun pulling you apart when we get home. After your little stunt tonight…” Dream’s voice trails off as he finally looks at George, a sadistic smile crossing his features.

As he watches Karl lay the sweater down, sitting criss-cross applesauce and tucking his ankles under their opposite shin, Sapnap starts fawning over the way the sun makes Karl’s eyes look magical. They were a comforting greyish blue and had specks of gold scattered around, but the sun made the gold shimmer.

Sapnap was left stoic, one hand stuffed in his black locks, soothing the pain of the bump and the other lightly covering his mouth (and flushed cheeks) as the newcomer stood before him.
