Wyll, that sanctimonious bastard, refuses to help Astarion ascend. Astarion leaves the party, hoping they all die screaming.
Ah, but Raphael has an offer: a mirror allowing travel between worlds. Surely there must be a universe where ascension is still on the table? There’s nothing left for Astarion in Baldur’s Gate, after all.
It doesn’t matter that Wyll’s come looking for him. And it certainly doesn’t matter that Wyll follows through the glass, through boundless universes, through their myriad other lives—searching, chasing, never giving up.

Martin has a microwave and a toaster and an electric kettle and a communal kitchenette with barely enough counter space to prepare a sandwich, let alone cook a full meal. Jon has a kitchen, and Martin doesn’t, because Martin needed to do his due diligence for Jon, and--
Well. It’s not as though kibbeh is hard to make. And mihshai malfoof may be time-consuming, but it’s good to keep his hands busy. And once he’s gotten started, he might as well make a salad to go along with it, and if he’s making a salad he should round it out completely and add dip and pita, and his grandmother had an excellent lemon chicken soup recipe, if Jon can only just find it, and then it is Monday morning and Jon is staring at the stacks and stacks of tupperware on his counter, wondering how the hell he’s going to get it all to the Institute.

Jon speaks again. "Is there anything I can do?"
Two-plus decades of self-abnegation bubble up in Martin's throat, threatening to spill over, to reassure Jon that everything's okay, not to worry, Martin's just fine. But the words die on his tongue. Maybe there was a thread of compulsion in Jon's question. Maybe it's the after-effects of that glorious, already-fading moment of SIGHT, when all the fog had gone out of Martin's head for the first time in months and Jon had stood before him, real and true and unafraid. Or maybe it's nothing supernatural at all. Maybe it's just ordinary human trust.
