Summary
As the season opens in 1815 our heroine, Penelope Featherington, returns with a plan. Her society papers are more popular than ever and she has found a way to channel her money to herself in order to procure a new wardrobe and a sizeable dowry.
She wants only to secure a marriage that will allow her the freedom she needs to escape from under her mother's thumb and continue writing. "The show! What do you think about the show?" Stiles gestured emphatically to the television where The Women Tell All episode was playing.
Very slowly, Derek asked, "Do I look like someone who's ever watched a millisecond of The Bachelor?"
Stiles scrutinized him for a long moment, taking in Derek's boots, his faded jeans, the t-shirt stretched over his chest, his chiseled jaw. Derek could probably do numbers on The Bachelor. Contestants and viewers alike would think him mysterious and find his general grumpiness endearing. And he'd look infuriatingly good in a suit, all tall, and muscled, and stupidly handsome. Stiles decided to fuck with him. He shook his head and said, "Nah, there's not an ounce of romance in your body."
"Excuse me?"

Derek pulled a face, because somehow the advice of "find someone who irritates you more than anything else" didn't sound like the best foundation for a loving relationship. His mom must have seen his doubt, because a grin flashed white in her face, the soft brown of her skin warming with a gentle blush as she carried on.
