If you need anything, I don’t know, text me. But try not to need anything. You’ve taken three hours off my usual eight which means I’m only going to be sixty-three percent beautiful tomorrow. And you don’t want to see me at sixty-two percent.”
“You’re not gonna stay?” Kendall’s face is watery. Stewy digs four fingernails into his palm to cool his impulses. Kendall is not your pet, he reminds himself, Kendall has slept alone hundreds of times.
“Nah, man,” Stewy starts. “Take up all the space you need. I can literally see your ego hovering, anyway. It’s fucking huge. No room for me.”

In the shadow of the Hamptons house, with the voices of adults floating down from the open windows and the pool scattering its dappled light everywhere, it felt as hazy and unsubstantial as everything else. But impossibly, miraculously, it was happening.
