Summary
Since his release from a seven year nightmare 'experimental medical trial' with the supposed military that cost him an arm, Bucky has been in a downward spiral. Refusing all outside help, he's scraping by on his own when he gets cornered behind a dumpster in an alleyway in Brooklyn, and he thinks it might be the end for him until an overconfident gym-rat in brand name clothing interrupts the fight.

Summary
Steve and Bucky have entered into a relationship. It's contractual. It's sexual. It's not nearly nuanced enough to encompass all of what they want from each other. And to add to Steve's confusion, he now has to navigate their ever changing dynamic between work and play, between sex and affection, and between keeping his heart safe and letting Bucky in.

“Keys to Steve’s place in Brooklyn, and his motorcycle. Some records about his, ah, accounts and things. He—well, he hasn’t been declared officially dead, we can’t, you know, say anything about the time travel, but—”
“He’s not coming back,” says Bucky, before Banner has to try to couch it softly, or spare Bucky’s assumed feelings. It’s a courtesy Bucky doesn’t need. His feelings have seemed very far away since Steve left. “I know.”
"Yeah, so, uh, I just figured you should have all this."
Bucky is doing fine after the Blip. He has his amends, he has his exit strategies, he goes to therapy. Steve's gone, but that's fine, Bucky can deal with that, even if he can't deal with feeling like a ghost in the apartment that Steve left behind. But when Steve returns, they'll both have to deal with how to rebuild a friendship and a home that are haunted by the ghosts of who they used to be. Their methods of doing so are perhaps less than ideal, what with how they involve more sex and stealthy surprise interior decoration than any actual communication. Maybe that's all they need to make a new home together.

Steve picked up the piping bag and returned to the ramekins. Bucky left, though not without shooting one last look at Steve's wide back. Bucky could already tell Steve Rogers was trouble, not even counting the near-religious experiences he inspired among the staff. It wasn’t that Bucky didn’t appreciate him as well; he did. He just tended to appreciate people he found attractive from afar, because explaining the metal arm was hard, and because he didn’t really know how to handle letting someone in close.
But that wasn’t why Steve was trouble, not really.
Bucky wanted to know why their new pastry chef had gun calluses on his right hand.

“Kinda hard to wash your hair if you don’t take your hat off,” Steve says, amused.
Hesitantly, Bucky reaches up to pull his cap off, revealing a matted mess of hair. Steve lets out a barely audible, “Oh.”
Somehow, Bucky managed to catch his quiet exclamation and his shoulders round up protectively. “Sorry.” Bucky’s voice is tight with shame. Steve feels like a complete unprofessional and a grade A asshole.
Steve is just a simple hairdresser.
