Scarlet sparks shoot from the goblet's brim, flames leaping up and stark shadows stretching away as the blackened parchment drifts into Dumbledore's wrinkled hands. Scratchy writing made almost illegible by ash and lingering embers. When he reads the name aloud though there is no doubt in who he has beckoned to the stage.

Summary
Instead of turning up to Olivander's with a snowy owl in tow, Hagrid decides to take Harry to 'Bartlenie's Beasts', his favourite magical menagerie, so that Harry can chose his own friend.
This is a little fluff fic with the premise of Hedwig being a magical snake because I wanted the Harry has a pet snake trope without removing Hedwig as I have a soft-spot for her.
