Summary
It is Miss Karrin Murphy's duty to her family, as the eldest daughter, to marry well. This is a fact that her family is happy to remind her of, and something she is not likely to forget. However, this is not her first (or second, or third...) season of balls and parties and the games of courtship that young people play, and her prospects are decidedly dismal. It doesn't help matters that several members of the beau monde have gone missing, and Miss Murphy is more concerned with solving this mystery than she is with solving her marriage status.
Harry Dresden calls himself a detective, advertising in the papers that he can find things no one else can find and solve problems that no one else can solve. By all accounts, the man is more than a little odd, and is best avoided. It doesn't stop people from seeking out his services, it just means they don't look him in the eye when they do it. That's perfectly alright - a man on the run from his past, he has no interest in social standing so long as he's left in peace. He's fine on his own.
At least until he crosses paths with a determined young woman, as bright as she is beautiful, who makes him question everything.

Summary
I wasn’t surprised when Murphy came tearing out of her office with purposeful strides. I was surprised at the smile spread across her face like she'd just heard wonderful news.
I was more surprised when she exclaimed, “Oh my God, baby, I missed you so much!” in this sugary-sweet sing-song voice.
But if I had to pinpoint the thing that shocked me the most, I’d say it’s probably how she leapt at me without warning, threw her arms around my neck, wrapped her legs around my waist, and kissed me.
Yep. Yep, that was the real surprise, I think.
Just a silly fic in which Murphy tries to prove a point to the boys in SI, and, as usual, finds her plans derailed the moment Harry is involved.

Summary
Harry Dresden is used to being between a rock and a hard place. It's just, he's not sure if he's ever been in a spot that was quite so tight and impossible to escape, before. Now that the dust from last summer is finally starting to settle, Harry's left trying to piece himself together, and finding it difficult when so much is missing. He hasn't been able to track down Nemesis (or, more importantly, its vessel.) He still isn't sure how to help Thomas. He's got Mab breathing down his neck, and, oh right, there's the whole "having to maintain a fake relationship to support his very real engagement to Lara Raith" thing.
It should say something about just how fucked up his life is right now, that he's starting to find that Lara, the woman who practically bought him off a fairy queen, is the one person it's getting easy to talk to. Not that he would enjoy her company or anything. It would be insane for him to want a friendship with her, let alone something more, of course. And who is Harry, if not the portrait of sane life choices?
