Summary
Luke Skywalker needs to get away. The Rebellion had a massive success, but there was no time for grief once things had settled. So he took Artoo and together they run reconnaissance missions for the Rebellion. Something light, something where he can be free for a moment. Just him and the stars and little droid to keep him company.
Then the Emperor is killed and replaced by Darth Vader.
There are terrible rumors that he isn't quite human. That he's hunting for someone.
Luke pays it no mind. He's alone. He's free. And when he starts feeling unwell, all he has to do is fly down to the nearly planet and rest.
Emperor Vader is no worry of his.

The initial plan had been simple. Anakin had accepted his master’s dark gift. Immortality. Power. Security. Laid out and ready for him to take and shape into something he could protect for the rest of his life. For such promises he had been willing to give up so much. The sunlight. The Jedi. He allowed his master to bite his neck, drain him to near death. He drank the ancient vampire’s blood. He turned towards the dark. And then he marched into the temples and slaughtered everyone he could find.
All for her and their child.

Din knew that the man felt anger. They’d talked about it before, during those late nights at the kitchen table: at his masters, at his father, at the Emperor and the Empire. He’d seen the turbulence of it under the surface, the way Skywalker’s jaw tightened as he recounted the past or the way he paused before speaking, as if letting something pass through him. He knew that Skywalker’s anger had mellowed over the years, that it was twinned with compassion, that the desire for revenge he’d felt had transmuted into a desire for active justice. It was the Jedi way, Skywalker explained: to sit with negative emotion and then to move through it, letting it go to be a thing of the past. Over time it became less and less, until it was no longer a burden pressed tight and heavy to the body.
It sounded peaceful.
It sounded hard.
