Odysseus almost barks at him. “You are a skinny, underdeveloped thing. Either you are a child who has grown far beyond the reasonable height or you are a peasant boy starved of food.”
“I eat plenty well,” the boy snaps back. “And it’s not my fault you’re barely breaking past 5’5.”
“What in the Hades does ‘five-five’ mean?” Odysseus asks, throwing his head back in annoyance. What in the hells was he doing, arguing with this kid? He might be going insane. “You know what? Get out. Leave this stupid room. I need to fucking relax without a whiny voice in my ear.”

Summary
The first time Mr. D looked, really looked at Perseus Jackson, he couldn't help but be transported back to the seventies, to memories of her.
The gods had been fading since the Vietnam War; mortals had long stopped believing in divine powers much less the greek traditions and their purpose; their wars had been fought for oil, pride and politics, not glory. The Olympians, still under the flickers of hope of the flame of belief that lived wherever civilization’s faith still flickered, had grown desperate — sending their children on quests not for honor, but to keep the stories alive, to prove that they still mattered.
The crops at Camp no longer shone a healthy hue of gold, it’d been half-empty, its borders thin. Only a handful of kids remained, leaving on quest to never return, most cabins run by veterans of small battles no one remembered.
The Oracle had still spoken, her prophecies bitter, cryptic, tired of being ignored when Lyssa had stumbled into camp, drunk and too age-tired for a fifteen-year-old, dreaming of hungry gods and dead children, no longer able to ignore the pull; just a new champion for the gods, another pig for slaughter.
Another child of Dionysus, drenched in madness.
