And then she looks up. Red, but not a flashy, dramatic engine livery; instead, a more subtle paintjob, chipped and flaked from work. A freight uniform, if she had to guess, made for utility and ease rather than presentation, and as soon as she glances up, she looks back down again at rough, dirt-stained hands delicately helping clear up the remains of her lunch.
“They’re horrible, that lot,” the truck continues, faint smile on his youthful face as he happily picks through the dirt, “nothin’ they like to do more than makin’ newcomers feel pathetic - you were real brave standin’ up to them like that.”

Summary
For once, a rare break in their schedule, a whole day where neither Hydra or Rusty are needed for anything, and what a lovely day this break has fallen on - the sun is shining, the weather is perfect, and they have all the time in the world.

Summary
It’s been four months, three days, and nearly an hour and a half since Electra determined that Evergreen would not be staying at the Troubadour. A decision not made lightly, and one that they should definitely be able to move on from.
An unopened packet of cigarettes - not even a brand Porter liked, but quintessential all the same - found, twenty chances for Electra to move on.
When they reach zero, Evergreen will be wiped from their memory. It's for the best.

Because maybe, in another world that she dreams about sometimes, she’s curled up in bed with Rusty right now, her books discarded in favour of the gentle rhythm of an engine lulling her to sleep. A warm, pitted hand is curled around her waist, gentle breath sonorous as Rusty holds her close, and that guilt flows away into contentment as she gets comfortable against his chest. Sometimes, Hydra’s there too, holding her hand across Rusty’s waist as they mutter in their sleep against Rusty’s shoulder, and in those dreams her core couldn’t feel fuller with love-
“Pearl? You alright over there?”

Summary
Electra didn’t pursue him, of course they didn’t pursue him. That would mean the engine had more of a spine than they did. It was always like that, when they argued. One of them - usually Porter, if he was being completely honest - would storm off. And they'd be apart, for a few hours or a day or week, until one of them felt they'd cooled off enough to go and see the other. Porter was usually the one to break first, too, to go skating to the electric shed, tail tucked.

Summary
He’d never actually seen Electra eat, come to think of it. Some engines didn’t, preferring to get by on their fuel or power source alone. It might be the same for electric components, too, for all he knew. It wasn’t a habit Momma held, and one she discouraged Rusty from, and he and the other fuel trucks needed to eat. As she liked to say, the Starlight Express gave them good food, and hungry stomachs to fill it with, and tongues to enjoy it with, so they may as well eat. Porter liked to cook, liked to see his loved ones enjoy the results of his labor, and so he was usually the one to make sure they were all fed.
Electra seemed the sort to hold themself above all that.
