Summary

The walk to the dorms always seems long after a trial, but it’s worse this time with how heavy Shuichi’s body feels. “Even when the others were ready to side against you… despite how terribly the truth would hurt us, you knew we had to find it.”
The truth—it’s all he’s good for, it’s the only value he holds to these people. You’re a great detective, Shuichi, they’ve told him. We can’t lose if he’s on the case; it’s such a good thing he’s on their side. Without him, they wouldn’t have survived the first trial. Without him, they’d be unable to find the culprit.
He’s always had to wonder if these people see him as a friend or a lifeline.
