    Costia lay still, the snow soaking through the blanket where it pressed against her back. Her eyes stayed on Roan, studying the weight he carried now — not just on his shoulders, but in the way he avoided looking directly at her.

     

    Her voice was quiet. Barely above a breath, hoping that her love was still alive.

     

    “And how is Lexa?”

     

    Roan’s jaw tightened.

     

    He didn’t answer right away, and when he did, it wasn’t what she expected.

     

    “She thinks you’re dead.”
