    Now Sanemi was really pissed off. One moment, he was the laughingstock of all his fellow Hashira. Now this ice-faced pretty boy comes marching in out of nowhere and everyone is cooing over him like a freshly hatched baby bird? What gives? What the hell was going on?

    “He’s the new Hashira, idiot.” Obanai answered. “And you’re talking out loud. You’ll scare the ‘baby bird.’”

    Giyuu looked like he wanted to disappear into the ground.

    The Hashira – eight of the most intelligent, hardworking, and distinguished students that made up the student council. On a technicality, Giyuu is now supposed to be one of them. He doesn’t feel very deserving of the title, but at least everyone has been kind and welcoming. Well, almost everyone.

    Sanemi excelled at school and he was damn proud of it. Being the only support system in a house with an absentee father and too many siblings, it was a miracle that Sanemi could pass his classes let alone score high enough to be a Hashira. Everyone on the student council was nothing short of exceptional. Well, almost everyone.

    “Back there,” Sanemi begins slowly, hesitantly. His hands curl around the edge of his uniform, as if thinking about how to bring up the question. “They said…there was once a boy who killed his sister with his bare hands. And…tried to blame it on a demon.”

    “Did they,” Giyuu’s breath, even as he tries to ignore what Sanemi said, catches in his throat. He busies himself by folding and patting his already neatly folded haori, the movements a little panicked and flustered. “And what does that have to do with us?”

    Giyuu didn't think there could be anything worse than being paired up on a mission with Shinazugawa Sanemi. But when their mission takes them back to the place he grew up in, Giyuu realises there are demons far more dangerous than the ones they've come to hunt.
