Sheldon often made faces in the mirror. He’d stand in front of it and morph his face into a smile, showing his bright white teeth. Perfect as always, he figured. (Missy used to say he looked like a monkey when he smiled. He’d keep practicing.) Then he’d frown, and he’d try to look sad. He imagined sad music playing as he made that face. It fit, he decided.
He turned to the side and lifted his shirt.
He was concave. Hollow. Filled with the dull ache of hunger.
He’d never felt better.
