She was out of tears.
Enid wiped again at her face, exhausted by the hours she had spent collapsed on her bed, useless and depressed and unable to look at Wednesday’s side of the room. She couldn’t stop seeing her best friend’s broken body, laying in a bloodied heap at the foot of Willow Hill. She couldn’t stop seeing Wednesday laying comatose in a hospital bed, her father and mother looking on. I should’ve been there, Enid thought, letting out a choked cough, I could’ve stopped Tyler.
But Wednesday kept pushing her away, and now it might be too late.

Summary
But in all honesty Wednesday hated college, hated the people, the parties, the idiocy of some lectures. She felt too good for this place, like she was leaps and bounds above the curriculum. It showed in her results, only ever achieving 100% on every paper she handed in. Sometimes the books they were given she had read as a child. Even then that wasn't what she hated most.
Because what she hated most, was her roommate.
