It's a feather emblem, clearly meant to be pinned somewhere, painted black and stitched from leather. Nagato doesn't speak but wheels forwards, eyes lighting up in interest. The feather can only mean one thing.
"Taka."
(Years after the death of Yahiko, former leader of the Akatsuki, daybreak arrives once more. This time, they won't be failing.)

If you're aligned with Taka, you wear dandelions.
Uchiha Sasuke wears them threaded into his hair, splotches of yellow among black. Uzumaki Karin has them around her hands like bracelets. Hoozuki Suigetsu wraps them around the hilt of his sword. Sakaguchi Juugo keeps them woven into the neck of his cloak, distinctive flashes of gold.
To Taka, it's just flowers. It's just something cute they decided to do one day and stuck with out of habit. To everyone else it's a sign of resilience, of the hope they bring like rays of sunlight.

Kakashi can think of no reason for Sasuke's inexplicable and drastic change in behavior. He doesn't like the desperate, haunted gleam in his student's eyes, and he also doesn't like the nagging feeling that he's missing something very important.
Aka: Future Sasuke goes to Past Sasuke and gives him a reality check with Specific Intentions, but as with most Uchiha, his methods leave much to be desired.

He studies Itachi’s face. His son’s eyes dart around the room; flickers past the fridge, the cupboards, the window, unable to focus. His pupils are dilated, his eyelids heavy. Those eyes lock with Fugaku’s as they finally close, sharingan still active. Itachi twitches, draws a final deep rustling breath, before his whole body goes limp.
The silence returns. Fugaku lets go of Itachi’s wrists. He lets out a sigh, rubs at his own temples with the base of his palms. His head is pounding. The night has only just begun and he’s exhausted. He closes his eyes, allows himself to rest for a little while before he stands and gets to work.
AU. The Uchiha realize the truth of Itachi’s allegiances and decide to launch the coup earlier than originally planned. Nine years later a lot has changed. The story will mainly focus on the family relationship between Itachi, Sasuke and their parents (+Naruto).
