Summary
When Shouto Todoroki is 4 years old, he encounters this disease for the first time when he is told that one of his brothers is dying. He remembers his eyes flooding with tears as his little hands clutched onto his mother’s sweater with desperation. He was frantically questioning why? Why would his brother rather die than get the surgery? His mother hugged him, attempting to soothe his cries. She responded with “Sometimes, when you love someone, you’d rather die than let them go.” He never understood her response.
Shouto is now 19, and is learning just what she meant all those years ago.

The room is too bright.
It’s quaint, in a nauseating sort of way. Polished floors glint from the gleaming honeycomb chandeliers overhead, make him squint. A few vases sprinkled here and there, filling the room with a sickeningly sweet scent – even a waffle-cone headrest framing the silken sheets of a neatly-tucked bed. Outside, the golden sun gleams, the gentle rays of light spilling past curtains that waver in the afternoon breeze.
It's meant to be beautiful. Luxurious. Welcoming.
With one sweep of his cane, Shadow Milk tears it apart.

Victor blurted out the question not long after that, no longer able to keep it inside himself. “What do you want me to be to you?”
But Yuuri’s answer was not at all what he expected.
It was, however, the kind of answer he liked. It sparkled in his mind and puzzled him enough to keep him awake that night, pondering the irony while he was sitting alone in his bedroom with the smell of ocean salt and driftwood still clinging to his hair.
“I want you to be yourself,” Yuuri had said in reply.
And wasn’t that just the funniest thing?
This whole time, Victor had been trying to figure out which mask to wear to make Yuuri happy, when all he wanted was for Victor to take it off and show him the real person beneath.
