In hindsight, Martin probably should have turned it down, but when faced with Elias Bouchard's polite smile and an offer that would put his financial struggles behind him for good, accepting the promotion to Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute just seemed like a good idea at the time. Even if it put him at odds with Gertrude Robinson's former assistant.
The good news is that there are far worse things to contend with than a disgruntled Jonathan Sims.
