Summary
Trapper gets a letter from home as well as a picture of his daughter holding a ferret. This leads to a heap of laughter in The Swamp and an unexpected reaction from one Frank Burns upon hearing of the ferret's new name.

“Hey, Frank, guess what?” Pierce addresses him, and like a ferret, he pops his head aside to look at him.
“What do you want, Pierce?”
“Trapper’s– hahaha” and he goes back to laughing as McIntyre sighs, flipping the picture Frank’s way. He squints a little and moves ahead to see that it shows one of McIntyre’s daughters with a ferret in her hands, smiling bright like the photo was taken while she was in the middle of a giggle. He understands this to be an insult to himself - ha ha, another Ferret joke - but he plays oblivious, knowing full well he won’t have a comeback for the ‘ferret-face’ bound to be thrown his way.

Summary
Hawkeye emerges from the O.R. having been forced to amputate a young boy's leg. Despondent and exhausted, he makes it to The Swamp, where Trapper is. They talk about the war and their families, each confiding in the other's understanding.

They say nothing for a while. Their touches speak for themselves – the camaraderie in them. The love – whatever undefined shade of that – they carry shields them from going mad. Hawkeye looks to Trapper and, for a moment there, he’s not looking back at him. It gives him a profound courage to stare. It’s dark. Way too dark for him to truly see anything beyond the man’s silhouette and a select illuminated line about his other side from the faint, dull moonlight.
