“That’s all for today, Wafflebot. Great work!” they said, high-fiving the robot.
“Let’s head back. We need to fix the lights before nightfall.”
The Wafflebot closed the lid on the box and waddled after the child, who strolled out like they hadn’t just taken a bunch of components out of broken robots.
Shadow Milk, still floating near the ceiling like a bored specter, considered his options.
On one hand, it wasn’t his problem. Just a kid scavenging broken tech. Nothing interesting. He could go back to razing Raisin Village or torching the school again—classic hobbies. That might take the edge off.
Unless the kid wanted to get set on fire. That could be mutually beneficial.
But…
He sighed. He was bored. And curiosity was still the one thing that got him in trouble.
So, naturally, he jumped down.
