Summary
Todd has been an assassin for years. It was an easy job, especially when he had the universe whispering in his ear telling him which jobs to take and which to turn down. So when Mr. Priest offers him much more than his usual rate to kill a man named Dirk Gently, the universe is there telling Todd to accept the job. However, when Todd looks Dirk in the eyes, something seems off. He can’t pull the trigger.
Priest then hires Todd to officially work for Blackwing, hoping that he can persuade him into seeing the dangers of leaving Project Icarus alive. But things backfire for Priest when Todd learns that Dirk is actually a very good person, and he might be falling in love with him.

Dirk thought for a moment. “Well, I certainly didn’t mean that I wanted you to kill me. But yeah, life has been a shit show since we broke up and just as I was beginning to feel okay again, you got taken. On what would have been our third anniversary. I guess I just figured, if it’s my time, then it’s been one hell of a build-up.”
“I think it would have been worse if you hadn’t broken up with me. They didn’t know we’d broken up when they took me. All that brainwashing stuff was focused on us still being together. If we were, then it might have worked better in their favor.”
“I suppose you’re right. Things always happen exactly as they’re supposed to happen.”
That felt like a blow to the heart. Things happened the way they were supposed to happen. Which means that Reese is just another toy of the universe. He was just an angel guiding him through hell.

Todd's band, Mexican Funeral, was - in his opinion - the best band in the land. Dirk's band, The Coinkydinks, was - in Todd's opinion - the worst. Todd hated Dirk. He hated the music he played, he hated the outfits they wore on stage, and most of all he hated their name, Coinkydinks. And with Silas of the Mexican Funeral dating Panto of the Coinkydinks, Todd was forced to spend time with flamboyant Dirk Gently. But something about Dirk that isn't what Todd expected.
