Summary
“Lieutenant Commander Payne?” says Charles, uncertainly. Maybe he’s walked into the wrong room. Science is an odd department to place him with. They gave him his old Command colors back with his new uniform, even though Starfleet will never, ever place him in charge of a starship, but it made sense enough if he was on protection duty. This…is a bit less comprehensible.
“We don’t have to bother with the pleasantries. Just get to it.”
“Uh, Captain Gadling asked me to report to you. I’m your new…” Charles isn’t sure what phrase to fill in there. Babysitting project? Bodyguard? Both?
