Summary
After years of settling into a comfortable life as a sensei, Iruka is pulled back into the field for an S-rank he has no business being on, utilizing an ability he’s hardly ever trained, with the same mission captain who had overseen his final fuckup in the field years ago. A mission captain who doesn’t seem particularly happy to be working with him again.
Iruka probably wouldn’t be particularly happy about this, either, if he wasn’t focused on just trying to make it home alive.

Summary
The wires fell away from Sasuke.
“Think hard on whether you can or cannot hold true to what I’ve said,” Kakashi finished.
A hawk cried out above him. He had to leave soon.
Yet, he hesitated.
Sasuke still slumped against the tree, an avalanche of an expression on his face. He did not look like he’d received the words to reconsider his goal of revenge. There was no way Kakashi was going to leave him like this. He couldn’t, not when every cell in his body screamed at him that leaving Sasuke alone now would be one of the worst things he could ever do.
The hawk screeched again.
Who, then? In whose hands could he leave Sasuke? Gai? No, he was too preoccupied with Lee. Tenzo was off the table. The other jounin senseis?
His answer came strolling along around the corner, about to pass under the tree they were in.
Iruka Umino's face scrunched in confusion as he neared the tree, eyes following up the trunk.

Summary
Kakashi takes a sip of pretend tea from his pretend cup all the while Sasuke tries to ignore how ridiculous this may seem. “What do you think healing means?”
Sasuke’s reply is almost robotic, “Penance.”
“I thought you might say something so gloomy.” Kakashi sets his cup down and their pretend host pretends to refill it. She beams at her father for playing along before she toddles away to look for another doll.
The smile on Kakashi’s own face lingers as he watches his daughter, “Something they don’t tell you about healing…is learning to be okay with the quiet. With your own head, your hands, your eyes. We have peace on the horizon, and you and I have learned nothing except how to fight. We have to be okay with these quiet times if we want it to last.”
