Summary
The Rumbling is over, and the world outside of Paradis is dead.
Ymir seeks a newfound freedom by etching her soul into Historia’s newborn child. Her exit shatters the Paths, lifting the curse from all remaining shifters, including Eren Jaeger, who hadn't expected his own survival.
Eren is taken back to Paradis and imprisoned—possibly for life. Having formed a new, aggressive political movement of the state, Jaegerists defend Eren’s right to freedom now that their martyr is no longer facing imminent death at 23. A court date is set.

Eren heard footsteps in the distance, echoing down the corridor as he splashed cold water on his face, staring down the rusted drain, hunched over the cracked porcelain sink. The scent of an old familiarity heightened his senses; clean linens, fresh, a little like bleach, too clean. A sweet undercurrent beneath it all. Captain.
Of course, he’d already smelled it tonight on the airship, but it had been so muddled with everyone else’s scents, and so soon after transforming, that it had been hard to pick one out from another.
Eren steadied himself as his mouth filled with sourness. Captain. Once so enamoured by him but Eren knew better now. Nothing good came of their conversations anymore, and whatever glimmering shine he’d glossed on his once-mentor had faded and tarnished. He hadn’t been able to save it.

At the age of 35, I am still single and I can be proud of a great career. In the evenings, I look for random sex with anyone who is willing, but I can't fill the emptiness I feel in my heart with anyone. I accompanied the men to the door and Izzy and I waved to them one last time before getting into the car and leaving.
I watched the car drive away and the man I loved drive away with it. I regretted that I hadn't found out until now. My heart ached with emptiness, crying out for the one person it couldn't have. Now I have the rest of my life to see him happy at my brother's side.
"What are you thinking uncle?" Isabel's voice was full of curiosity and I answered her question truthfully.
"That you have to be careful what you wish for."

I hate his eyes. I love them so much that it hurts. I hate how dead they are and how they still show that he loves me. I hate how I always give in to him. That I let him touch me at all. That I still crave it even after watching him eat people to gain their titan ability.
I love him. I loved him the moment I saw his beautiful green eyes, how passionate they were, how bright and how they looked at me in once hero worship that became devoted, true love. Like I was his world, the only thing that mattered. Most of all I love that even when he knew he was leaving he chose to spend his last night with me. Out of all of his friends, his sister, he chose me because I hate what he's become but the Eren I loved and love him loving me and still seeing nothing wrong. At the end of this war we're both going to fully come apart.
