Summary
The thing with an impromptu apocalypse is that it forces people - even those who hated each other prior - to join forces for the sake of survival.
However, when the aforementioned apocalypse is averted - and by proxy, no stressed bonds are forced - then enemies are liable to remain enemies.

And who better than the little turtle that managed to outsmart her, all those years ago?

Summary
It was cold. Freezing really, the kind of cold that soaked through your clothes and your skin, seeping into your bones and freezing them solid. Hugo hated it with every chilled fiber of his being, he wanted out of it. Through the clouds of snow that blowed into his face he could faintly see a small orange light. Please god let that be fire.
Evidently, it was a village. An abandoned, torn down village with large black spikes invading every bit of the surrounding area. Frightening...but not really his problem. He pulled himself away from staring at the spectacle back to the source of the orange glow. Maybe they left in a hurry and there was still a fire going, he had to get to it before he froze to death.
When Hugo shoved open the door, he was not met with a roaring fire in a stone fireplace. He was met with a block of ominously glowing amber, a man trapped inside, and a boy crouched down, sobbing in front of it.
The more polished version of a previous rewrite where Hugo joins post-QFAD, this time with a few changes. (that being, uh oh I did another season 2 rewrite sis better stop me)

Too bad things have a tendency to go right to hell around these parts, what with assassination attempts, grown men acting like children, threats of war on the horizon, and unexpected family.
(the first two chapters were originally posted in my ficlet collection In Knots but as Phantom and I discussed it and started passing ideas back and forth, it grew. Expect hijinks.)
