Summary
Locked and loaded and fresh out of tears, Zoey walks over to the window. She rips off the blinds, unlatches the lock, and hops onto the fire escape.
Her Chuck Taylors touchdown against the platform and rattle the rickety stairwell. She looks out over the railing and grimaces at the overrun cityscape.
A cursory glance tells her all she needs to know. She’s never gonna make it out of here alive.
Distant screams, sirens, and a blood-red setting sun. Despair weighs her down, and she hasn’t even tried.
Zoey sinks slow to her knees, lets out a long, drawn-out, whimpering groan. Whatever, it doesn’t matter, she still isn’t going down without a fight.
Rise. One step, “Heat from fire…” Two steps, “Fire from heat…” Four, six, seven and nine, “You can do this.” A little bit closer to the ground, a little further down, just another few flights.
Or:
A trans Zoey-centric series of vignettes following her and the gang through No Mercy.

Summary
Trapped in the ruins of her hometown, bound to the Festival of Termina, and seriously out of options, Marina does something drastic in the name of survival. She begets a child of the Old Gods, hoping to gain the eventual protection of a Depraved Blue Demon. However, after discovering her fellow contestants have other plans than engaging in collective blood sport, she quickly finds out that raising a Demon baby is a lot more complicated than simple alchemy and incantations. Like way, way, WAY more complicated. And also maybe just a little fulfilling.

Summary
“Thou art familiar with the fear of falling back asleep after awakening from a nightmare, aye?”
The sudden question catches Messmer’s attention. “Art thou proposing that thou’rt in a nightmare right now?”
“The contrary, actually,” Gwyndolin mumbles. “I am afraid that if I close mine eyes for even a moment, I will find myself back in one.”
“Really?” The idea makes Messmer laugh for the first time in a long while (or maybe it’s the first time he has ever laughed? He can’t recall). “This is not the nightmare?” He gestures at the ashen plateaus before them dotted with numerous ruins. “Behold, a land disgraced, despairful, and shrouded in shadow! Filled with those who would cheer at the image of thy head upon a pike if they knew of thine association with me. Still, thou wouldst rather this be reality?”
“Absolutely.”
What Messmer believes to be a test of loyalty arrives in the form of a lost soul.

Summary
The Dark Sun is plucked from the Deep. While recovering in the company of a plain-spoken Ashen One who intends to let the Fire go out, Gwyndolin weighs the cost of postponing the inevitable and decides instead to meet it when it comes. Perhaps the moon can still shine in the Dark - or salvage the future from the ashes.
