He smiles at her, lips peeling open so widely it must hurt, and somewhere deep in his eyes something flashes gold.
“Penelopeia,” he breaths in awe, eyes watching his only child take her first breaths. “My Poppy,”
Lycoris can’t take her eyes off of her daughter, so small and fragile as she is, smushed and quiet and so so alive that she is. She can’t tear her eyes away as her tiny chest rises and falls.

Kaveh storms into the room and sets the book on his desk with a large thud.
"Stop this ruse and tell me just what you intend to get out of this," Kaveh says, breathing furiously.
Al-Haitham studies him for a moment, visibly ruminating over a matter, and then something changes in his expression.
"Okay," he says, and then he pulls Kaveh over the desk by the lapels and kisses him fully on the mouth.
Al-Haitham is courting Kaveh. He is very smug about it.
