She's here to save him. He's not ready to be saved quite yet.
During the events of Dark Empire, Mara infiltrates the Emperor's stronghold on Byss to rescue a Luke Skywalker who doesn't actually want a rescue at all. Because why should he content himself with being a black pawn, when he could be the black king?
Or: your author was bothered by how the EU doesn't really deal with Luke falling to the Dark Side in Dark Empire, and also how Mara wasn't there, so decided to write a missing scene that explains, at least, why he got a new prosthetic hand during the comic.

Summary
Grand Admiral Thrawn has returned to the galaxy and has taken control of the shattered Imperial navy. As the shadow of renewed war looms over the New Republic and the Outer Rim, a new threat to the next generation of Jedi and other Force users preoccupies many heroes of the Rebel Alliance trying to find their place in the new order. Thrawn's plans remain unclear, as members of the New Republic, denizens of the Outer Rim underworld, and the identity-challenged Imperial remnants jockey for position and struggle to see the full picture. The answer may lie in the vast reaches of the Unknown Regions, where friend and foe wait, come from outside the galaxy, or even from the past.
A canon-compliant, loose homage to Heir to the Empire from the original 1990s Thrawn Trilogy, and a love letter to Star Wars Legends and the new adventures of the Filoni and Favreau era.
CURRENTLY: Jacen Syndulla meets Thrawn, Agent Kallus does his job, and Kata Akuna and Cal Kestis are on a road trip.

Summary
This is an alternate universe story based on the Legends Star Wars novels. It starts a few years after the novel Vision of the Future. In this story, Mara turned down Luke's marriage proposal.
Most Luke/Mara 'shippers were not happy with the beginning of the story, but they all agreed they loved how it ended.
This was originally an angsty one-shot viggie, but I was told I had to continue the story and 'Fix' the evil I have bestowed upon all L/M 'shippers.
