    Kyojuro was so bright that it almost hurt to look at him, yet Akaza couldn’t force himself to look away. His attention was always immediately drawn right back to the most brilliant fighting spirit he’d ever seen.

    Akaza couldn’t remember what the sun looked like, but he thought it might look a lot like Kyojuro Rengoku’s soul.

    Flames curled around his form in a gentle caress, eager and ready to protect him and anyone he deemed worthy of saving in an instant. Fire danced around Kyojuro as if he were the origin of every ember known to the universe. Deceptively gentle warmth could become a blazing inferno in seconds if anyone dared get too close, and Akaza warred between his self-preservation and the willingness to bear witness to his own destruction if only it meant getting closer to those flames.

    Yes, Kyojuro Rengoku was the sun itself. And when he fought? Oh, then he became a supernova.

    There was no world in which Akaza’s fascination with the Flame Hashira ended well for him. He knew this, yet like a moth to a flame, he could not help being drawn to something that would inevitably be his end.

    Perhaps, unknown to even himself, Akaza had grown tired. He could think of no other reason he would flirt with death as he was.

    If Muzan discovered the depths of his interest, then he’d either be expected to turn Kyojuro immediately, which he would never do without his consent, or kill him to be rid of the distraction. And if Kyojuro discovered how gone Akaza was on him, then he could easily use it against him to be rid of Akaza once and for all.

    He walked a delicate line, and it seemed more certain by the day that it was only a matter of time before he fell from it.
