Summary
The vampire's eyes are wide and round, full of amazement. They dart wildly around the sights below, as if trying to see everything at once. The lights of the city reflect upon his face, soft shadows dancing across his elegant features. The very tips of his fangs are visible from his parted lips.
The radiance of the city pales in comparison.

Two months after the brain falls, Baldur's Gate has picked up most of the pieces. The heroes that saved Faerûn have been there through most of it, helping the city get back on its feet. But now it's time to move on. Old lives and families to return to. Gale is going back to his tower in Waterdeep, back to the quiet, back to being alone; or at least, that was the plan. But plans change.
This is a story about falling in love.

Summary
There is a wizard’s tower on the edge of the city.
To keep its vengeful inhabitant from destroying them all, monthly tributes must be made to placate the evil wizard's greed. When that duty falls to Cazador Szarr, he does not send jewels or magical artifacts, but his least-favorite spawn: Astarion, who goes, reluctantly, to his doom.
Meanwhile, Gale Dekarios realizes he should probably clear up that whole 'evil wizard' business; it seems to be causing some confusion in the neighboring city. But one more day with friendly company-- he hasn't talked to anyone other than Tara in ages-- couldn't hurt anything, right?

Summary
Astarion wouldn't dare compare Gale’s very clearly lovingly maintained kitchen to a campfire and a chest of pilfered cheese and stale bread. But the feeling of it, the easy companionship, sharing the day’s burden of woes with someone who understands? That's familiar. And that, he didn't even realise he missed. Only now, watching Gale potter around his kitchen and chatter in much the same way he used to potter around the cookpot, Astarion feels… settled.
Maybe even comfortable.
Oh.
Oh dear.
Before he can stand and take his leave, go back to the contract in Calimshan and pretend this embarrassing little episode never happened, Gale sets a goblet down in front of him.
Just in passing. Drops it off on his way to the teapot. Like he thinks nothing of it.
But it's blood. Fresh, too. Pig, if Astarion's nose can be trusted, which obviously it can. He takes a tentative sip. Then downs the rest before Gale has finished pouring his tea.
“It's warm,” Astarion says, nonplussed, staring at the now-empty goblet. It would be beneath his dignity to lick it. He's no starving wretch now. But it is tempting all the same.Bookmarked by JSherlock

Summary
Two months on the road. Two months of hiding in shaded alcoves and camping in abandoned homes; looking over his shoulder at every turn; fleeing when he spots someone with even a passing resemblance to his family; eating only when necessary to avoid leaving a trail of exsanguinated carrion in his wake; never trancing in the same place twice; doubling back to cover his tracks—all as the Sword Coast plunges deeper and deeper into winter. Astarion doesn't know where he's going but he knows he's not far enough away to stop moving.
When he meets an chatty innkeeper with a quick wit, a collection of strays, a dangerous secret, and a job offer, Astarion decides to stick around for a little while—just until he has enough coin to keep running.
