February 27, 1899
Last thing we was expecting to find on our way through the Grizzlies was a woman on the side of the road, looking mighty distressed. Reminded us of Jenny, who must have thought the same thing, seeing as she was the first off the wagon to help her. Abigail and I followed right after and tried to see if there was anywhere we could give her a ride to. She said she didn’t even know who she was or how she got here, only that she thinks her name is Zoey Campbell. Ain’t a name I’ve heard before, and she talks a little different, but Dutch reckons it’s from up north. New York or somewhere, probably. That’d explain why her clothes was a bit nicer looking than ours, though I don’t imagine many city girls dressing like us men. Maybe that’s why she was out here.
We took pity on her, and Hosea doesn’t think she’s lying, so she’ll stay with us until she either remembers something that’ll help us reunite with her family, or she figures out what she wants to do. She seems a bit soft for the outlaw life, and I’d rather not drag her into it, if it can be helped.

Summary
West Elizabeth, 1903. Three years since the van der Linde gang split up, three years that Hosea & co. have been living peacefully on Beecher’s Hope. They thought they’d left Dutch, Micah, Javier, Bill, and all the trouble they used to cause in the past, but after they get word that Dutch is in custody and on his way to Blackwater for a public hanging, they realize that you can never truly run from your sins. And things get a little more complicated when their path collides with that of two bounty hunters with a deep seeded mistrust for outlaws.
*Takes inspiration/elements from both “The Lone Ranger" and “Magnificent Seven.”

Summary
Out of all the ideas Dutch and Hosea have schemed up, thrusting Arthur into the role of older brother had to be the most ill-advised yet. Taking care of others, especially a boy with fire in his eyes and mischief in his heart, was far beyond his skill set. Destruction seeped from Arthur's fingers, laying waste to every good thing that ever came his way. It was only a matter of time before he would lead the boy to ruin.
This story follows John growing up from Arthur's perspective. Arthur struggles with the responsibility of being an older brother, particularly being looked up to, as his own actions cut away at his soul and his self-worth continues to erode. He teaches John different things along the way--with varying degrees of success--and strives to protect him from harm. This is easier said than done, as is Arthur's desire to prevent the kid from becoming like him.
