"Jesus!" Chim exclaims, recoiling a little. "Buck, tell me you didn't pull a dead cat out of the trash."
"He's not dead!" Buck insists, offended.
"Are you sure?" Chim asks doubtfully.
Or: Buck rescues a lovable disaster of a cat, who rescues him in return.
