The plan should be simple: get close to Bradley, even be his friend (sorta?), get the info on Gamma Mu Mu's X games routine, outdo them, get the trophy. Emotions come in and complicate it. And by complicate, I mean wreak havoc: on both Max, and Bradley.

The more plausible explanation is simple; those who aren't as gullible as the rest of the rumor mill assume he's not-so-secretly a rich boy whose parents are 'donating' to the administration.
In Bill's eyes, they can think whatever they want, but there's one white-wooled ram he's been seeing that needs to know the truth about him and his past before their budding relationship can go any further.
