From her hiding spot, Marja stared at the boy. He had the same eyes as her son. Her precious little Emil, less than a year old, had the same sea-blue gaze as this child, only maybe a shade darker. Then all she could think of was her son in this boy’s place, his eyes staring off into nothing, and she sobbed, tears blurring her vision.
The boy’s mouth moved, and even though nothing but a low gurgle of blood escaped his lips, Marja could see the shape they made. She could see him silently cry, mother, mother.
