Summary
After flying out of Los Perdidos by helicopter, Nick Ramos is taken to the sleepy former ghost town of Verdanton, California. Here, lucky survivors of the apocalypse are forming a new society, and the plan to make a cure is well underway. Now, all that's left is to heal and recover, even if it means juggling a job as a mechanic, his relationship with Annie, a concerning amount of surgeries, a friend Nick is pretty sure has a crush on him, and the loss of poor sweet Diego.

When the day of reckoning finally comes and the machine is turned on, it *almost* works perfectly. But not quite.

The seconds felt as if they bleed into hours. The flow of electricity eventually stopped, Kokichi’s heart was thudding in anticipation.
