99 can admit to himself, for as much as he'd been denied the role of soldier, he'd always had the role of older brother. In spite of that, when the Kaminoans piece together the usefulness of having the older clones look out for and help socialize the younger ones, he'd been the one Alpha clone overlooked. And he'll never begrudge his Alpha batch brothers...but he wishes. He yearns.
And then, of course, he'd been given his own special line of clones. He just hadn't known what that had meant for all of them.

At some point during the night cycle, their legs had tangled, they had hugged, seeking the comfort of their exhausted bones and the lulling rhythm of their breaths.
And Crosshair had slept feeling safe and sound for the first time since… That thought made him stir up, perplexed, lost in some tranquil dream where both Mayday and him were walking in the snow, as if strolling aimlessly.
How could he feel safe? He had to protect Mayday from the Empire and he knew, he just knew how ruthless the Empire could be because he had been part of the machinery.
