Independence has defined the last three years of Alicent’s life, marked by her liberation from a destructive marriage and the rapid development of her career. Renowned divorce lawyer and as out as she can be without getting scolded by her family, she takes every day as it is given, and will not open her arms (and heart) to the first arrived.
It is good, then, that Rhaenyra Targaryen, star Formula 1 driver for Firelight, prodigy on her way to reign over the Championship, and madly taken by her, is a lot more special than most.
Not that Alicent will make it easy for her.

That is, until she turns her head and sees a flush of loosely curled, auburn hair checking a brown peacoat. Memories flash through Rhaenyra’s mind of her ex, always arriving against her will, of running her hands through that exact same hair, twirling strands around her fingers as they shared a bed. She forces her eyes shut and turns away, taking a healthy swig of her beer and hoping it’ll wash the ghosts down her throat. Alicent isn’t here. There’s a solid chance Alicent doesn’t even live in the city anymore.
Back in the city for her father's funeral, Rhaenyra runs into her ex, Alicent. She never knew New York City could feel like such a small town.
