Consecutive one-shots showing in-between moments that explore the developing relationship between Emmrich and Rook, linear to the plot of Veilguard.
Emmrich dreams of the sound of his name being called, or the simple knowledge that there is someone who cares for him in the next room. It should be a relief from vivid nightmares of his mortal demise, but it is not. His heart breaks upon awakening.
Because it all dissipates with cruel rapidity when he opens his eyes to the weak light and is again a lonesome speck, sighing stale air in a cavernous hall of countless dead.

Emmrich Volkarin led a very punctual and measured life. After all, there are only 15 registered forensic anthropologists employed by the Coroners in the entire country. Routine was, after all, its own form of ritual. Maintain, continue, provide. Trudge along in rhythm.
