“Christopher,” Eddie says, around a lump that’s suddenly appeared in his throat. He turns away, then, ducks down to dig through his backpack so that he won’t do something insane and embarrassing like snatch his baby back immediately after handing him over.
Eddie hears the guy say, “Hi, Christopher. I’m Buck. I like your outfit. Dinosaurs are very cool.”

"It's on a dry erase board!" Chim protests. So far, all he's written on the board is Ways to Deal with Capt Gerrasshole, and then 1. Murder? below it. "And I put a question mark. So even if I didn't erase it, the jury would never convict. A question mark introduces reasonable doubt."
Maddie rolls her eyes with a fond smile. "I assume there would be other evidence."
"I would never be so sloppy."
"Again, this would be more convincing if you hadn't immediately written murder right at the top of your list."

Ravi takes a mental inventory of his team and his breath steadies. Contain yourself. Just until you get them home. Just until you let everyone know. He’s built for this. Survivor's guilt is a companion he first met in the pediatric cancer wards and knows well after four years as a firefighter. He knows how to pack it up into a bottle and tuck it beneath his ribs. Hen, Chimney, Buck, Athena — they’re all carrying worse. He can shoulder the grief for tonight. Ravi has to be the one to tell the others.
Bobby is dead. Ravi has five tasks on his to-do list. He never thought they’d be easy.

Eddie doesn’t remember the phone call — only that it happened. He wouldn’t be at the airport otherwise. The voice on the other end (Ravi? It must have been Ravi’s) sounded like static. But the aftermath is sharp and painful like a stab wound: a suit in his bag, Chris crying, a weight suffocating him. The directions to Bobby’s church burn a hole in his chest, the directions to Bobby’s funeral.
Bobby is dead and Eddie has a long overdue conversation with his son.

Summary
Torture smells like spring.
Like daffodils and tulips and snowdrops. Like the bouquets brought inside from the manor gardens to lend their life to cold stone walls that house criminals. Easter mixed with madness makes sense in this twisted landscape; Draco’s only chance at survival is to endure it. He knows this. But that doesn’t quell the twitching in his calves, the flexing in his fingers.
Granger lifts her hand off the floor and Draco nearly loses his lunch, stomach churning as he watches her extend her arm, reaching through the translucent cord, reaching towards him. He tries to blink it away, blink blink blink, but both she and the cord are stubborn, persistent things.
