His phone chimed and he had a new text.
‘So is the book as good as the film?’
Stede was confused for a moment before he remembered the book he had been attempting to read on the beach. The Picture of Dorian Gray. He’d read it before of course, but he couldn’t help but go back to it time and time again. It was a classic, after all.
His phone chimed again.
‘Ben Barnes is quite dashing, but I always preferred blondes myself’
Was this man flirting with him? No, he couldn’t be. This had to be part of the prank, right?

It's hot. It’s so fucking hot. Ed’s never known it to be so hot. Without the benefit of the sharp winds over the water, it’s still, stagnant, muggy and oppressive and endless. But he can cope with the heat.
What he can’t cope with is Stede, lifting his arms to wield his axe, his biceps flexing, and showing off two dark damp patches on the fabric of his shirt that grow and grow as the sun gets higher in the sky. He gulps down water, and Ed watches drops of sweat trickle over his temple and curl under his jaw, and he’s transfixed by it.

Or: There’s a heatwave, Stede is very sweaty, and Ed is very into it.
