Summary
Of course he is eager. Javier's nose is to Arthur's throat now, thumb on where his pulse thrums just under his jaw.
Of course he would endure anything to be here. He runs hot enough to soothe Javier's thin bones, which have been missing their own heat since eighteen ninety-five.
Of course I'm eager, he thinks. I would bleed out, as long as I was held by him.

Summary
Arthur will never call himself an optimist, especially not when it comes to the ordeal he and Charles have entangled themselves in. He foresees a bad end for both of them, whatever that might happen to be, because he is part of it and he is rotten with anything that shares a tooth with affection.
No, Arthur is more like an opportunistic infection.

"The Devil's gotten into you?" Hosea asks, but he doesn't move away; he sets his fingers upon his chest.
"He has," Dutch says, misinterpreting on purpose so he can offer a pseudo-clever grin. "Hasn't He gotten into you?"

“It’ll be a miracle if he makes it through the night.” The doctor had said when he’d finally finished, wiping sweat from his brow and blood off his hands. “It might be best to make some plans with the undertaker.”
Charles refused.
And Arthur made it through.
------In which Charles defies his better judgment, and Arthur defies death, and it's worth it to be a fool.

:::::::::::
Charles didn’t mean to spend a year with the Van der Linde gang. He didn’t mean to fall in love with his best friend either.
:::::::::::
Charles didn’t know they were running without a destination, just forward, onward, upward, through sheets of snow to certain death. Didn’t know Dutch’s plans weren’t plans at all, just daydreams. Charles ain’t gonna die for Dutch Van der Linde. He sure as shit ain’t gonna die for Micah Bell. He might, however, risk a limb for a certain sandy-haired cowboy with a handsome smile and a sharp tongue...

Summary
“I–I’on know about this, Charles.” The words are raspy and low, and Arthur clears his throat, takes a deep breath. He’s sure his brain isn’t getting enough oxygen, head swimming at the sight in front of him.
“I do,” Charles says, just as soft. He’s looking up at Arthur from where he’s kneeling on the floor, situated right between Arthur’s knees, hands gently holding the calf muscles of the man above him. His thighs are parted, brushing right up against the insides of Arthur’s legs, muscles tensing and shifting under his weight. Arthur stares at the movement there, at Charles’ hair flowing loose around his shoulder, at the hollow in Charles’ throat. Anywhere but his eyes.
“I just ain’t so sure I deserve what it is yer offerin’,” Arthur whispers, hands clenching even tighter.

“Tell me you’d like boys like me better,” Patrick sings.
Pete approaches with slow, measured steps. His gaze is dark, immense, like the deep center of a lake. Patrick, against his better judgment, watches the shape of his mouth as he sings, “In the dark, lying on top of you.”

Summary
“We don’t have to,” Pete continues softly, his expression morphing into something more like a comforting smile than a mask. His thumb rubs circles on the inside of Patrick’s knee. “We can watch a movie, or write— whatever you want.”
Patrick looks into Pete’s eyes, black when the bus is between streetlights and flashing amber when under one. There’s no need to do this if their other tactics will work, and there’s nothing saying they won’t at the moment.
And yet, his head is full of Pete, of the siren’s call of stripped down to our skeletons.
Patrick says, “I want you… I want you to.”
Patrick can't sleep- Pete's lyrics are keeping him up. Pete helps him by taking a page out of Patrick's book.

Summary
“I think I know what my vice is,” he says quietly, peering up at Tommy through his lashes and praying he doesn’t sound as nervous as he feels.
Tommy puts the finishing touches on the cocktail—he’s added a little decorative spiral of lemon peel this time—and saunters back over, leaning dangerously close to Spencer as he places the glass between his two fidgeting hands. “And what would that be?”
Spencer chokes, coughs, clears his throat again. “Competence,” he says, barely above a whisper. “Competence and… attention to detail.”
-
Spencer's tasked with planting a bug on Tommy Bowe, a representative of a mysterious organization that Spencer's outfit is investigating. What's supposed to be just another standard mission soon turns into something more: a conspiracy that calls everything Spencer knows into question, with an infuriatingly handsome bartender at its core.

Summary
The creaks and thumps continue from above, before another window in the roof of the tower is opening, sending sunlight streaming through the rest of the room — and revealing the hair.
Spencer suddenly feels much more eager to leave. The woman’s hair is looped through the rafters, spread across the floor, dragging over the banister she had just walked up, and it’s all still connected to her body — which is now back on the ground, standing a few feet away.
“I know about people wanting to take things,” she says, voice soft, and Spencer’s heart quickens.
