Summary
Jason laughed loudly, tossing his head back. “Can you fuckin’ believe that? Holy shit. Didn’t even have—“
His voice disappeared as he actually caught sight of Bruce.
Bruce stood directly in the harsh light of the moon. His face gaunt, the blood drained and leaving him as pale as a cadaver. His eyes wide, trained on the same spot, and full of an emotion that Jason had never ever imagined to see on him.
The pieces click fast. The alley, the gun, the haunted tone of B’s voice last time he’d said his name.
He… had no idea how to handle this.

Summary
Word traveled fast in Crime Alley.
It became yet another Alley-kid code word. If someone said they were telling Mama, that meant Jason Todd would get an earful while he planned out his next drug bust. If someone said Mama’s paying for dinner, it meant a free meal to any kid who showed up to the diner that day.
(or: "a toddler who was being saved by the red hood called him "mama" once and now crime alley kids will refer to him as mama all. the. time.")

Summary
And so, it becomes a thing. Jason would hold an orange out, Dick would grin at him with the force of a thousand suns, he would peel the orange and hand him a slice. Dick always ruffled his hair after that like he couldn't help himself. He always took extra care if they were still in suits, just done with patrol, to not let the blood, which somehow always spread from his knuckles to his fingers, get smeared on the fruit.
---
Jason is gone and they want Dick to talk. Like that would help at all.
He knows they all mean well but how was he supposed to admit that he couldn’t see a chilli dog stand without getting the urge to buy one for Jason? That he ached to laugh in the way Jason made him laugh, with snide jokes and quips that came too fast, too ready? That he couldn’t bear the thought of never getting to see his smile again?
How was he supposed to say that every time he peels an orange he holds a piece out to the air beside him like he expects Jason to appear and pop it into his mouth with a grin.
How was he supposed to say that oranges taste bitter now?
---
Or little Jason can't peel oranges properly, good thing he has a big brother for that.

Jason: Are you having a stroke?
Jason: Please don’t have a stroke right now. I’m very comfortable in bed.
Dick: the concern u show at me possibly having a stroke is truly touching
Jason: It’s because I was at least 97 percent sure you weren’t having a stroke right now
Dick: what abt the remaining three percent????
Jason: I would make sure that you would have a tasteful funeral, if nothing else.
------
Dick and Jason as they become brothers over the years through texts, phone calls, missed calls and voicemails. Oh, and a Ski trip and a conversation with a very, very drunk Dick Grayson.
