    Summary

The Song is sung, and the Dawn is won, but the victory is bittersweet, and the cost is too high. Yet there is little that could not be done with magic if you were willing to pay the price. Dues are paid, fates are changed, and even destiny itself is covered with a shroud. AU + Time travel. Or alternately:

The Battle for the Dawn is won, but everyone Bran knew was dead, so he throws a tantrum of epic proportions and drags Bloodraven into tossing unsuspecting and just freshly killed Jon Snow back into the past by sacrificing themselves. Messing with time makes ripples in the timeline, and some things are not the same.

Interesting premise, but way too much love for OCs and characters who only spoke one or two lines (or less!) of dialogue in canon. And the author drops what was the main premise of the fic about halfway through - super easy to defeat the Others, no problem, even the SHOW did more with the plot, which is damning with faint praise, I know. Author was bored with that plot, but it makes a lot of the early buildup a huge letdown.

The elevation of male characters to absolute superhuman strength and intelligence, while complaining about female characters who have "plot armor" in canon is pretty ironic. Any female is either stupid, sidelined, killed, or absurdly horny for any male character in their view. Male characters are much the same in terms of horniness -- all female characters are breasting boobily in their POVs.

Any male character is a military and strategic genius, even the dumb ones -- see Balon Greyjoy, and Mace Tyrell. And then characters who are pretty intelligent and canny in canon are downplayed in the fic. Author couldn't figure out what to do with Tyrion, so he just kind of dropped him. And there's Shireen Baratheon, a naval and military genius at age 11, who beggars disbelief.

Misogyny, homophobia, racism, ableism - I'd say canon typical, but it's even worse in the fic than in canon. The infodumps are plentiful and get more and more prolonged as the fic goes on.

All in all, dude fic written by a dude, who is ridiculous horny (in a no homo way) for men who fight battles (endless endless endless endless ENDLESS battles). Guy really enjoys his military history and documentaries on the History Channel.

To fall into fascination with your own dreams is to risk becoming a thrall to your own fancies, your own fears. Every dreamer knows this.

Every dreamer but Susan, for she is the first - and she dreams of Jon Snow.

“He will bring you grief,” Aslan says, on a long sighing note.

“Jon brings me joy,” Susan counters.

“Yes. It is always so, at the start of things. But joy does not last forever."

    Summary

Written with MustangSally, who is not yet on the archive.

Painted across the barren and desolate reaches of Texas, the shadows of the Project put additional pressure on Scully and Mulder's already fragile relationship. After a hostage crisis raises more questions about the Project's breeding program, Scully begins her own investigation, leaving Mulder to choose between saving her and saving himself. Finally, the investigation leads to tragedy and Mulder and Scully find that more questions have been asked than answered.

The title reference was to an island mentioned in Medea, to which we turned for fairly obvious reasons.

Take the warning seriously: extreme violence, including the death of children.
