Lance's stomach churns as he stares at his ceiling. He can barely remember Keith's laugh, he can barely remember his witty remarks that Lance should know-- but he doesn’t (His hands shake at this realization.)
His fingers itch to cradle something; someone. That isn't there, but instead thousands of miles away in space. So, instead, he cradles the few memories he still has before they're gone too.
Lance misses Keith, and he decides to do something about it.

Leo was totally fine, in case anyone was wondering.
Fine with the nightmares that had been getting worse since they got back home.
Fine with the fact that Jason’s place at Camp Jupiter, having been built for one person, only had a single bed.
They were just staying for a week. Leo could completely platonically share a bed with his best friend for a few days.
Sure, their shoulders kept brushing. Maybe Leo wasn’t even sure how he’d make it through the first night with the heart palpitations that was giving him—never mind a whole week. But he’d figure it out.
It was fine.
In retrospect, he really should have accounted for his habit of clinging to things when he had bad dreams.

“Siren?” He whispered. He whipped around and they held eye contact for only a moment. His beautiful green eyes were swimming in tears. He swore, turning pink as he wiped his tears away.
“S- sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you..”
“It’s okay,” He said softly, settling next to the boy who still refused to meet his gaze. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“..it’s just a dream,” Siren mumbled, still embarrassed. “Nothing important.”
Kappa eased his hand into Siren’s and felt the boy relax slightly, “I’ll listen if you want to tell me about it.”
Siren solemnly studied the details of Kappa’s scales for a moment, “It wasn’t just a dream.. it was kinda a memory, but worse?”
“A memory? Of what?” -

“Sorry, babe,” Keith says. He even smiles, no doubt proud of himself.
And Lance knows it’s his fault. He started it, after all, but at least the biting term of endearment made sense when he was the one doing it. Keith had been talking to him like they were some old married couple. The kind who’ve been married too long and don’t love each other anymore and gripe over meaningless shit, only managing to piss each other off even further.
That’s why Lance called him dear. Because it made sense in the situation. It was a calculated insult. A strategic jab.
Keith, on the other hand, is weaponizing the term of endearment without any rhyme or reason, simply to get back at Lance.
Or: Keith and Lance have gotten into the habit of using pet names as condescending insults. They're not really terms of endearment.
