Summary
Three things happened in rapid succession. First, Ethan’s head exploded with a blinding pain. He couldn’t stop the scream from wrenching itself out of his throat. The sound barely registered to Ethan.
Next, a door slammed open, the sound startling Ethan into opening his eyes. His vision was red, then blurry, and he faintly recognized the shape of a man coming towards him.
Then—his vision cleared, and the man was crouching over him, his mouth moving. He was white, blonde, a bit out of breath, and…shirtless.
OR: Ethan only has enough brain function to think Benji's hot.

Ethan was just too good at putting people at ease. It was what made his enemies trust him and his allies go along with his batshit ideas. Everything about him, from his smile to his hair to his choice of words, made most anyone who met him feel as though they could put their life in his hands. Benji had felt it the first time they’d met, when Ethan had seemingly materialized out of thin air to request information from some Estonian database, and he felt it even now that they were sitting across from each other at a fancy Italian restaurant at their supposed engagement dinner.
“If I’m being completely honest,” Benji said, “I prefer Olive Garden.”
OR: Benji and Ethan should not be let out in public if this is what they're going to do every time.

Benji was out of his chair when he arrived, standing beside the wooden desk near the center of the room. Frayed rope was pooled around his feet. He held the x-ray in two trembling hands, brows furrowed and eyes wide in horror as he studied it. His throat bobbed when he swallowed heavily. Ethan took in all this information in the two seconds it took to cross the room and grab the paper out of Benji’s hands, crumpling it and tossing it onto the desk.
“They put a—” Benji started, hands still positioned as if he were holding the x-ray.
