"Did you just," Stark begins, staring over at him with some sort of horror. He's standing in the kitchen, cradling what appears to be a gallon of coffee close to his chest as if to protect it from Loki's villainy. "No! No, no, no! You aren't allowed to make jokes that I would make! You're evil! Be silent and brooding!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, is my existence bothering you?"
"Yes," Stark says, "there are actually few things right now that bother me as much as you do."
OR: in between the "puny god" scene and his sentencing on Asgard, Loki gets caught in a time loop. He'd his refund now, please.
(Odin is a shitty parent, the Avengers are confused, Loki is just trying not to go even more insane than he already is, and the author is starting to wonder why she has so much dialogue from these movies memorized.)

Loki doesn't kill the frost-giant that touched him. The truth of Loki's birth is revealed and Laufey wants his son back but Thor isn't ready to lose his brother. So Odin found a way to ensure Loki's return. Thor of Asgard is finally ready to marry his betrothed, however Loki is not ready to live in the shadows of Thor's greatness or in a marriage of infidelity. NOW Loki is determined to get out of the impending marriage with his former brother. Even if it means he will never see Thor again.

“Thor,” Odin said, waving a hand to dim the lights in the room as he rose to his feet. “Odinson. My heir. My firstborn. The Norns did not bestow such power upon our people lightly, and each would-be king of Asgard must prove himself worthy.
“The heir is to complete nine tasks, one for each of the Nine Realms, and in doing so prove his worth.” Odin took the parchment in hand, turning it between his fingers for a moment before he continued. “Before I present you with your tasks, know this: the konungsskapari is not to be undertaken lightly. The quest is not designed to bring glory; rather, it is to shape the heir into the king both Asgard and the Nine are in need of. Once you leave, there is to be no turning back. You may move freely between the other realms, but you will not be granted passage back to Asgard until it is time for the final task.”
